Adding to your mental health toolkit

Updated: Apr 14, 2020

We are all being affected by uncertainty and change which can be stimuli for anxiety, fear, and scarcity. One of the ways anxiety can manifest is in our bodies. Back pain, sore muscles, and restlessness can be our body's way of telling us that we need to take a break. Anybody else having trouble getting to sleep at night?

While this is easier said than done, it going to be increasingly important for us to learn how to 'take a break' and add to our mental health toolkit as we face a future with many unknowns.

How are you taking care of your mental health during this time? Maybe you go for walks, call friends, read books, limit news coverage, try mindfulness exercises, dance to music, play online video games with your friends, or seek help from a professional.

What's important is that as individuals we develop a 'toolkit' of coping skills we can go to and as a community we show up for each other and root each other on.

Here is a short progressive muscle relaxation you can add to your mental health toolkit. If it benefits you- great! If it doesn't- that's just as fine! What matters is that you find something that works for you.
